I can only wonder why we live as we do. I guess Humans are social beings so the more the merrier. But to have cities that contain 15 million and more people is beginning to cause issues and posses a threat to our existence. We have to start to rethink how we organize ourselves. We can not just leave this to our so called leaders. Urban policy, City government, Federal policy concerning development, housing and municipal incorporation needs to be reviewed. It must now go in a different direction. This writter believes that our over population condition has prompted this necessity. Heavily populated areas generate large and concentrated amounts of CO2 gases and waste. Not to mention the heavy tax on local resources.

Given the fact that land is scarce in some places, perhaps we should look at putting a limit on population density and encourage living in places where additional growth can be accomadated. Then we could begin to develop these new areas while dissipating the effects that concentrated living causes. If there is employment and clean living to be had, people will flock there. These new places could cater to a wide range of desires for families. individuals, males, females across a broad range of interests.  It just does not make sense that we appear to be stuck in this current pattern of development. After all, the sky is the limit !

These new centers could be established to produce what is needed locally or regionally first and then incorporate a global outlook based on what would be unique to that particular area. For instances, there was a group of Ohio State students who went to South America to help a small village in Chile improve their economic condition. The  residents produced wool blankets that were mostly sold to torrists. The students helped to get the village on line and market the blankets worldwide. The blankets now sell for $129.00 and they sell an estimated 200 a month. Instant prosperity to a people that a dollar buys a weeks' worth of food. They have expaned their product to now include sweaters, vest and other apparell. And the village in now set to attract new residents and prosper.  This is community development.

In this new global economy we will have to compete globally but it must start regionally first. There are oppurtunities everywhere. We could reduce the effect of overpopulation in a number of places. Thus creating a more healthy and clean environment and creating commerce. The new age will require changes in the structure of society including how we organize and how we do business. What we will have to find is what we do well and is in demand from the rest of the world. If we continue to allow these overpoulated ares to grow we will only be adding more weight to our already congested major Cities which would seem to exaserbate the problems created by Over large metropolises. Of course there are other solutions to over population, but that discussion is for another time.

The structure of our societies does not just happen it is what we decide to do. We should not just be driven by the profit motive because we will go astray. If what we currently have is the best that we can conceive, then I'm ready to go! Spread the wealth he says. OH NO! he must be communist. No actually I am a Capitalist, I just believe that enough is enough.
